This leads to propagation of cracks present in the material and ultimately may lead to fatigue failure of such component. Inducing of residual compressive stresses on surface tends to increases the fatigue life of component. Thus the fatigue life and stress corrosion resistance properties of shot peened parts gets enhanced.
